The Fourth Sorrowful Mystery- The Carrying of the Cross

Pilate heard the people cry out, "Crucify Him!" So Pilate ordered Him to be nailed on a cross. But first He had to carry His own cross up to the top of Calvary. The cross was very heavy. The soldiers put it on His shoulder and it rubbed against His torn flesh. They dragged Him through the city and up the hill to die. The people laughed at Him and threw rocks and mud. When He fell, the soldiers kicked Him to His feet. Once along the way, He met Mary, His Mother. But she could do nothing to help her dear Son. Veronica ran out of the crowd and wiped His face with her veil. Some good women wept for Him. And Simon was forced to help Him carry the cross. Jesus did all for love of us. Father, by the merits of this painful journey to Calvary, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Our Father
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name: Thy kingdom come: Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread: and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation: but deliver us from evil. Amen.

A person that is to be crucified is forced to carry their own cross.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

The Third Sorrowful Mystery -The Crowning With Thorns

Jesus was the King of Kings, the King of the Jews. But the Roman soldiers thought this was funny. "Still, let’s pretend that He is," one of them cried. "For a joke let’s make Him a crown." So they picked up a branch of thorns, and made it into a crown. They pushed it into the head of our Savior. It hurt Him terribly. The blood ran down into His eyes. The thorns tore His skin and reached toward His brain. Then the soldiers put a reed in His hand. They threw a dirty red cloak over His shoulders. They laughed at Him and cried, "Hail to the King!" Jesus suffered all this because of our sins of thought and pride. Father, by the merits of this painful humiliation, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

They made a crown out of thorns, and forcefully pressed it down on His head.
Hail Mary...

They gave Him a reed, as a scepter.

Hail Mary...

Kneeling before Him, they spit on Him, and said, "Hail, King of the Jews!"

Hail Mary...

Taking the reed from His hand they strike Him on the head, driving the thorns more deeply into His head.

Hail Mary...

Pilate brings Jesus before the people, hoping His pitiful sight will soften them: "Behold the man!" Hail Mary...

Their response: "Crucify Him! Crucify Him!"

Our Blessed Lord submitted to this terrible humiliation for us.

Our Father, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

The Second Sorrowful Mystery - The Scourging

Pilate, the Roman Governor, knew that Jesus was not guilty. But all the people cried out for His death. And because Jesus had taken our place, God, His Father, was willing to let His Son die. Pilate ordered Him to be whipped. The soldiers fastened Him to a stone column. Then with heavy whips with bones at the end, they beat His back. Jesus suffered terribly from this scourging. But He did not cry out. He knew many people commit sins with their bodies. We call these the sins of the flesh. Jesus wanted to suffer for their sad sins and wanted us to be strong against this kind of sin. Father, by the merits of Jesus in this painful scourging, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Amen.

Jesus is taken before the High Priest where He is falsely accused.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Jesus is tied to a pillar and cruelly whipped.
Hail Mary...

Jesus offers His suffering for the sins of us all.
Hail Mary...

The soldiers continue whipping Him.

The First Sorrowful Mystery – The Agony In The Garden

Everyone who commits a sin is a criminal against the good God. So he should be punished. But Jesus, our Savior, came to take the sinner’s place. He asked God to punish Him instead of us who really are the guilty ones. This suffering of Christ we call His Passion. On Holy Thursday after He gave us the Blessed Sacrament, He went into a lonely garden called Gethsemane. He looked ahead and saw all He was going to suffer. He saw all our sins. The thought of His Passion and our sins made Him sweat blood. This blood poured down upon the ground in His agony. Then Judas came with the soldiers. Like a traitor he kissed Jesus. The soldiers then led Jesus away to death. Father, by the merits of the agony of Jesus in the Garden, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Amen.

Jesus comes with his disciples into the garden "Stay here, while I go and pray."
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen

An angel comes to Him from heaven to help Him.

Hail Mary...

He goes back to his disciples and finds them sleeping. He says to Peter, "What? You could not watch one hour with me?"
Hail Mary...

He returns to the garden to pray.
Hail Mary...

He leaves the garden to return to his disciples and finds them asleep again.
Hail Mary...

He returns again from the garden and finds them all asleep.
Hail Mary...

He is all alone. He wakes them up and goes to allow the soldiers to find Him.
Hail Mary...

Glory Be To The Father

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.

Fatima Prayer
O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of Your Mercy.

The Sorrowful Mysteries

The Sorrowful Mysteries tell what happened to Jesus when some people decided to put him to death on a Cross. He had not done anything wrong. In fact, he was always good to people, especially people who were sick or poor. On that day, which is called Good Friday, Jesus was sentenced and put to death. We call Good Friday "good" because God is always good to us no matter how bad things are.

Through everything He went through for us, Jesus knew God was with Him. What happened to Jesus makes us sad, but it reminds us that God is with us, even when bad things happen to us.

In The First Sorrowful Mystery we journey into to the Garden of Gethsemani in Jerusalem. There Jesus prayed for God's help because He knew what was going to happen to Him.

The Second Sorrowful Mystery takes us to the place where the soldiers beat Jesus with whips.

After beating Him, the soldiers put a crown of thorns on His head and made fun of Him. This is the Third Sorrowful Mystery.

Jesus was made to carry a heavy cross on His back to Calvary, the Fourth Sorrowful Mystery.

Finally, Jesus dies on the Cross, which is the Fifth Sorrowful Mystery.

We all know what it is like to be afraid. Someone has hurt us and made fun of us. Have you ever been hurt by someone, or made fun of? Perhaps it looked like people didn't care what happened to you at all. Have you ever had to do something very hard or painful? Maybe you were very sick, and it seemed like you were going to be sick forever?

Jesus felt all these and more when He was condemned to death and Crucified. Through these Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary, Jesus tells us not to give up, even when things are very bad. God will help us through, God will give us the strength to go on.

The Fifth Luminous Mystery- The Institution of the Eucharist

The night before Jesus was going to be killed, he instituted and left us the most precious gift of Himself in the Holy Eucharist. “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.” Jesus took bread, blessed it and said: "Take and eat, this is My Body." Taking the wine he said: "This cup is the new covenant in my Blood, shed for you." At that Eucharistic meal, Jesus celebrated the first Mass. At every Mass the sacrifice of Calvary is made present. At the Last Supper Jesus instituted the sacrament of Holy Orders to perpetuate this sacrifice. "Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him."

Jesus sat down for dinner with His disciples, he took the bread, blessed it and broke it them saying, “Take this and eat it, it is my Body.” He took the cup filled with wine, blessed it and said,”This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many, take it and drink it.”

The Eucharist is a sacrifice as it is an offering and a sacrament because it is something we receive. In the Mass we offer ourselves to God, and God gives himself to us.

Amen.

Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and life.No comes to the Father, except through Me."
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen

Jesus said, "...Whoever has seen Me has seen the Father."
Hail Mary…

Jesus said, "And whatever you ask in My name, I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son."

Hail Mary…

"For this is My blood of the covenant, which is shed for many for the forgiveness of sins."

The Feast Of The Annunciation Of Our Lord

The time arrived for Jesus to come down from heaven and save us from our sin. God sent his glorious Archangel Gabriel to Mary's little house in the town of Nazareth and found her praying.

"Hail Mary, full of grace!" said the angel. "The Lord is with you, and you are blessed among women." Mary was startled and surprised to hear the angel's words of praise.

"Do not be afraid, Mary," said Gabriel. He told her that she was to be the mother of Jesus, our Savior. Mary was confused but understood what a great honor God was giving her. And she said, "Behold the handmaid of the Lord!" She only wanted to serve God and was willing to do as He commanded.

At that very moment, through the power of the Holy Spirit, she became the Mother of God. Nine months later, Jesus was born.

Mary knew that as the mother of Jesus, along with great joy she would also have many sorrows. She knew she would have to suffer when her Son suffered. Yet with all her heart, she said, "Be it done to me according to your word."

We celebrate this most glorious feast on March 25th.

This feast celebrates Mary's response to God, and the awesome moment of the Incarnation. Take some time today to think about how greatly our lives have been changed because Mary said "yes" to God.

Jesus teached and explained about the Kingdom of God. The Second Luminous Mystery- Jesus’ Self Manifestation at Cana

Jesus and His Mother Mary had been invited to a huge wedding feast in Cana. There were many people and lots of foods and wines. It came to Mary’s attention that the wine had run out. Mary came and told Jesus that the wine had run out. She turned to the servants and told them to do whatever He told them to do.

Jesus told the servants to fill the huge wine jars to the top with water. The servants must have found this very strange to fill the wine jars with water. When they had done what Jesus told them to do they returned to Him. He told them to draw out from the jars and carry it to the master. The master tasted what the servants brought before him, the water had been changed into wine! The finest of wine!

Jesus shows us by this first miracle that He will not refuse His Mother anything. This is how Jesus began the work that He was sent to do.

Amen.

The First Luminous Mystery- The Baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan

John had been baptizing in the Jordan River. One day Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and asked John to baptize Him . John protested because he felt that Jesus was the one who should be baptizing him. But Jesus told him that they needed to do this to fulfill all righteousness. It was the right thing to do. So John baptized him in the river.

Immediately after he was baptized, as he was praying, the heavens were opened and a dove came down and rested on Jesus. It was the Spirit of God in the form of a bird that had come down to show who Jesus was. Jesus saw it and John also saw the dove.

Suddenly there was a voice from heaven saying, "You are my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased". The dove and the voice of God were a sign to John that Jesus was the Messiah who had been promised.

The Luminous Mysteries

The Luminous Mysteries are also known as the Mysteries of Light. The Mysteries begin with the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River by John the Baptist. From then on, Jesus began to do great things.

In the Second Luminous Mystery we visit Cana in Galilee, where Jesus turned water into wine so that the people could have a good time. Mary said "Do whatever Jesus tells you."

The Third Luminous Mystery calls us to go with Jesus through the towns and cities of his own country. The light of his love shone on everyone he met, especially the poor and the sick and those that others looked down on. On one of those journeys, Jesus led his friends up a high mountain. They saw him shining in light, and he promised they would share his light too. This mystery is called the Transfiguration.

Just before he died, Jesus had supper with his friends and he gave himself to them in bread and wine. "This is my body," he said. "This is my Blood." In the Fifth Luminous Mystery we remember the Holy Eucharist.

How wonderful to follow Jesus in the Luminous Mysteries. We can bring joy to people, like Jesus did, especially to those that others look down upon. This is a beautiful world where we live even though it may not always seem that way. Let's always see it lighted up with the beauty God gave it. The Luminous Mysteries remind us to follow Jesus, the light of the world.

Amen.

The Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that any one who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother! To thee I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.

Amen.

The Second Joyful Mystery- The Visitation

Mary left Nazareth to go and help her cousin Elizabeth very soon after the Angel Gabriel had visited her. On seeing her beloved cousin Mary, the baby in Elizabeth’s womb leapt for joy.

These are some thoughts about the Second Joyful Mystery, The Visitation.

Amen.

Mary, your cousin Elizabeth was also with child.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen

Mary, you journeyed far to visit Elizabeth.
Hail Mary……

Mary, you greeted Elizabeth; with the Holy Spirit.
Hail Mary……

“Blessed are you among women”, Elizabeth said.
Hail Mary……

Elizabeth’s unborn baby leaped for joy within her.
Hail Mary……

Elizabeth felt so blessed!
Hail Mary……

Elizabeth’s baby felt so blessed!
Hail Mary……

Mary, I too am blessed ‘cause you’re my mother.
Hail Mary……

Mary, help me to be holy like you.
Hail Mary……

Jesus, I adore You for You are God!
Hail Mary……

Glory Be To The Father

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.

The Angelus

The Angelus is a prayer we say to remember and honor the Annunciation of the birth of Jesus Christ. The prayer are the works spoken by the Angel Gabriel to our Blessed Mother and her humble and willing response to all that was being asked of her. We pray it three times a day, at 6 am, 12 noon and 6pm.

The Angelus

The Angel of the Lord declared to Mary: And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour ofour death. Amen.

Behold the handmaid of the Lord: Be it done unto me according to Thy word.

Hail Mary . . .

And the Word was made Flesh: And dwelt among us.

Hail Mary . . .

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray:

Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that we, to whom the incarnation of Christ, Thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection, through the same Christ Our Lord.

Amen.

Our Lady Of Lourdes

The foothills of southwestern France is the home of the world’s greatest pilgrimage sites. Our Blessed Mother first appeared to Saint Bernadette, a little peasant girl. She was very poor and lived in an old abandoned jail.

One day Bernadette was out gathering firewood with her sister and her cousin. Bernadette reached a nearby river and heard a noise like a gust of wind. She looked in the direction the noise was coming from. She noticed a grotto behind her and saw a very beautiful lady dressed in white beckoning to her. This lady was Our Blessed Mother! The lady looked like a statue of Our Lady that Bernadette prayed her Rosary in front of. Bernadette kneeled and prayed the Rosary. The Lady soon disappeared.

Bernadette returned to the grotto a few days later and was very happy to see the Lady there. Neither her sister nor cousin could see the Lady. The Lady asked Bernadette to return to the grotto for fifteen days. People from the village started to accompany her when they heard her speaking of the Lady. Most of them believed that Bernadette was crazy! Speaking of a Lady no one but her could see!

One week later, the Lady told Bernadette to drink and wash herself in a spring. Bernadette was to dig in the ground the Lady pointed out to her and eat the weed that was there. The people looked on in disbelief as Bernadette did what the Lady asked of her. The spring would have miraculous healing powers!

Bernadette returned to the spot the Lady told her to dig in and noticed that there was a stream flowing from that very spot. The Lady was not there that day. The authorities ordered that Bernadette not return to the grotto because they thought she was playing a trick on them.

A short time after, a woman who had a paralyzed arm washed it in the stream and immediately it was healed. News of this miracle spread and many people started going to the stream. Miracles continued to happen.

Bernadette told her priest that the lady wanted a church to be built near the grotto. He told her to ask the Lady what was her name. She asked the Lady and she said “I am the Immaculate Conception.” Bernadette did not know the meaning of this name, but when she told her priest, he understood and now believed all Bernadette had said about the Lady. A church was built as Our Blessed Mother had requested.

Millions of people have visited Lourdes to wash themselves in the healing water of Lourdes. Many miraculous healings occurred and still continue to this day.

February 12 is the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. We remember all our sick brothers and sisters on this day and pray especially for them on this day.

Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us.

My Queen, My Mother

My Queen, My Mother, I offer
myself entirely to Thee.

And to show my devotion to you,
I offer you this day, my eyes,
my ears, my mouth, my heart,
my whole being without reserve.

Therefore, good Mother, as I am your own,
keep me, guard me as your property and possession.

Amen
