The Fourth Sorrowful Mystery- The Carrying of the Cross
Pilate heard the people cry out, "Crucify Him!" So Pilate ordered Him to be nailed on a cross. But first He had to carry His own cross up to the top of Calvary. The cross was very heavy. The soldiers put it on His shoulder and it rubbed against His torn flesh. They dragged Him through the city and up the hill to die. The people laughed at Him and threw rocks and mud. When He fell, the soldiers kicked Him to His feet. Once along the way, He met Mary, His Mother. But she could do nothing to help her dear Son. Veronica ran out of the crowd and wiped His face with her veil. Some good women wept for Him. And Simon was forced to help Him carry the cross. Jesus did all for love of us. Father, by the merits of this painful journey to Calvary, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
Our Father
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name: Thy kingdom come: Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread: and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation: but deliver us from evil. Amen.
A person that is to be crucified is forced to carry their own cross.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen
As the cross is laid on His back, it causes more pain for Jesus.
Hail Mary...
Weak and exhausted, Jesus falls.
Hail Mary...
meets His Mother causing more suffering in the Hearts of Son and Mother.
Hail Mary...
The face of Jesus is disfigured with blood and sweat.
Hail Mary...
Veronica wipes His face, leaving an image of His Face on her towel.
Hail Mary...
Jesus falls a second time. Fearing that Jesus might die on the way, the soldiers force Simeon of Cyrene to carry the cross behind Jesus.
Hail Mary...
Jesus speaks to weeping women; "Don't cry for me."
Hail Mary...
"If anyone is to be My disciple, let him take up his cross and follow Me," Jesus says. He falls a third time.
Hail Mary...
Dragged to His feet, He arrives at Calvary where He is to be crucified.
Hail Mary...
Glory Be To The Father

The Third Sorrowful Mystery -The Crowning With Thorns
Jesus was the King of Kings, the King of the Jews. But the Roman soldiers thought this was funny. "Still, let’s pretend that He is," one of them cried. "For a joke let’s make Him a crown." So they picked up a branch of thorns, and made it into a crown. They pushed it into the head of our Savior. It hurt Him terribly. The blood ran down into His eyes. The thorns tore His skin and reached toward His brain. Then the soldiers put a reed in His hand. They threw a dirty red cloak over His shoulders. They laughed at Him and cried, "Hail to the King!" Jesus suffered all this because of our sins of thought and pride. Father, by the merits of this painful humiliation, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
Amen.
Pilate asks Jesus, "Are You a king?" Jesus answers: " My kingdom is not of this world.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen
The soldiers place an old purple robe on Jesus to make fun of Him .
Hail Mary...
They made a crown out of thorns, and forcefully pressed it down on His head.
Hail Mary...
They gave Him a reed, as a scepter.
Hail Mary...
Kneeling before Him, they spit on Him, and said, "Hail, King of the Jews!"
Hail Mary...
Taking the reed from His hand they strike Him on the head, driving the thorns more deeply into His head.
Hail Mary...
Pilate brings Jesus before the people, hoping His pitiful sight will soften them: "Behold the man!" Hail Mary...
Their response: "Crucify Him! Crucify Him!"
Hail Mary...
Our Blessed Lord submitted to this terrible humiliation for us.
Hail Mary...
Our Father, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
Hail Mary...
